The Straits Games (TSG) 2006 Revised Announcement
: Registration
The Phuket Pride Association (PPA), on behalf of Groups
of TSG Representatives, welcomes all participants and
supporters of TSG 2006 to Thailand with our warmest
greetings.
Background
The Straits
Games(TSG) started
as a friendly annual sports event between LPG – Leadership
Programme Graduates of Malaysia and MAW – Men
After Work of Singapore, to foster friendship and
promote a healthy lifestyle in the GLBT community. With
the rapid growing interest of TSG, it has gradually
expanded their participants from Singapore, Malaysia,
Hong Kong, Japan and Thailand. This is the
fifth series of annual games that Thailand will be
playing host for the first time, as the games will
be held in Phuket Island this coming October.
TSG 2006, hosted for the first time by Phuket Pride
Association (PPA), will be a blast of events with a
packed schedule of sports (indoor volleyball, badminton
and bowling) and social events keeping participants,
supporters and volunteers fully occupied for the entire
week here in Phuket.

Dates of the Event
TSG 2006 has been set to be held in Phuket, Thailand
from Thursday 26th October till Sunday 29th October
2006.
Sports
The following sports will be played during TSG 2006:
- Bowling
- Championship Volleyball, and Amateur Friendly Match
(Novice) Volleyball
- Championship Badminton and Amateur Friendly Match
(Novice) Badminton
- Beach Tele-Match
Please refer to the attachment for the Game Format
(how many teams, singles/doubles, games, points for
winning games, knock out/round robin etc.) for the
all the respective sports.
The organising committee has the right to alter the
format, games scheduled and dates of the tournament
if necessary. Participating teams will be informed
of any changes.
Itinerary:
Day 1: 26th October 2006:
2:30pm - Pick
up participants from participating hotels to proceed
for Phuket Orientation Tour.
6:00 pm - Proceed
to Big-C Shopping Mall – Bowling Center. Registration
of TSG 2006 participants, follow by Welcome Reception.
Country

2006 kick off with Bowling Contest.
10:00pm - Special
Organized Tour by PPA to the Rainbow Zone, Paradise
Complex in Patong Beach.
Day 2: 27th October 2006:
9:00 am - Pick
up participants from participating hotels to proceed
to Phuket Town.
9:30 am - Volleyball
Contest at Indoor Stadium (venue to be confirmed).
12:30 pm - 45
Minutes Lunch Break
6:30 pm - Pick
up participants from Stadium, then send participants
back to respective hotels.
7:30 pm - Send
participants back to hotel. Free time to explore
Phuket on your own.
Day 3: 28th October 2006:
9:00 am - Pick
up participants from participating hotels to proceed
to Phuket Town.
9:30 am - Badminton
Contest at (venue to be confirmed).
12:30 pm - 45
Minutes Lunch Break
4:00 pm - Pick
up participants to proceed back to hotel. Dress
for Success for TSG 2006 Gala Dinner.
7:00 pm - Proceed
to TSG 2006 Gala Dinner, venue: Ratri Restaurant.
Day 4: 29th October 2006:
08:30 am - Fundraising
Gay Tours with lunch included (optional).
Proceeds from the tours will go to PPA, for the
necessary contribution to the designated charitable
organization indicated by PPA.
4:30 pm - Back
to Phuket. Pick up participants and proceed
to Patong Beach.
5:00 pm - Inter-Countries
Tele-Match Games on the Beach of Patong, while enjoying
sunset.
7:00 pm - Send
participants back to hotel. Free time to explore
Phuket on your own, and don’t forget to do
your last minute shopping.
The above tentative program is subject to change depending
on registration of teams. The above serves as a guide
for participants. The finalized program will be announced
at a later stage nearer to the event.

performance by respective countries.

Accommodation
It is strongly recommended, by Phuket Pride Association
(PPA), for participants to arrange your accommodation
with the Host Hotels of TSG 2006. This is to
facilitate easier logistics arrangements for transportation
pick up and drop off to all the events. If participants
require assistance in accommodation, Phuket Pride Association
will be pleased to be of any assistance wherever possible.
Participants and supporters who chose to arrange their
own accommodation. It is highly advisable to select
the accommodation near to the Host Hotels.

Games Format
BOWLING
Date & Time
The game will be held on 26th October, 6:30pm-9:30pm.
Venue: Big C Shopping Center, Level 3, Bowling Center.
Participation & Teams
1. Each team consist of 3 players.
2. A maximum of
4 teams is allowed from each country.
3. Each player
is allowed to represent only one team. Any player
found to have registered in more than one team would
be automatically disqualified from the games.
4. Replacement
of players due to unforeseen circumstances is allowed,
but must be done 24 hours before the games begin by
officially informing either the Sports Co-ordinator
or Sports Director of the TSG2006 Organizing Committee.
5.
The organiser reserves the right to cancel the registration
of any players/teams for violation of the TSG2006 spirit
and rules/regulations.
Game Regulations
1. World Tenpin Bowling Association Statutes and Playing
Rules will apply.
2. In the event of any disputes, the organising committee
shall settle the said dispute. Decisions made by the
organising committee are final.
Game Format
1. Players in the team will bowl a total of three
(3) games each to obtain total Individual Score.
2. Team Score is the sum of total individual score
from all three players in the team.
Awards
1. Medal will be awarded for top Individual with the
highest total individual score.
2. Medals will be awarded to the top three teams with
the highest Team Score, namely Team Champion, 1st Runner-Up,
and 2nd Runner-Up.
3. Challenge trophy will be awarded based on the total
Teams Score of the best 2 teams from each respective
countries.
4. To inject high spirit to the Bowling Games, Prizes
will also be awarded to the Worst Team with the lowest
Team Score.
BADMINTON
Date & Time
The game will be held on 28th October, 9:30am – 3:30pm.
Venue: TBA.
Participation & Teams
1. Each Championship Game team consist of two (2)
singles and two (2) doubles.
2. A maximum of 2 teams are allowed from each country
for the Championship Game.
3. Each team from the Amateur Friendly Match consist
of only two (2) doubles.
4. A maximum of 2 teams are allowed from each country
for the Amateur Friendly Match.
5. Each player is allowed to represent only one team.
Any player found to have registered in more than one
team would be automatically disqualified from the games.
6. Singles player is allowed to partner another player
to play in the doubles. For each team match, the maximum
number of sets allowed is two (2) for singles players
and one (1) for doubles players (see Games Format).
7. Replacement of players due to unforeseen circumstances
is allowed, but must be done 24 hours before the games
begin by officially informing either the Sports Co-ordinator
or Sports Director of the TSG2006 Committee.
8. The organiser reserves the right to cancel the
registration of any players/teams for violation of
the TSG2006 spirit and rules/regulations.
9. Participation and friendship is placed high in
the priority list of TSG. As such, countries that do
not have sufficient players to form a team are also
encouraged to register. TSG committee will attempt
to find solution and allow players to participate and
compete.
Game Regulations

will apply.
2. In the event of any disputes, the organising committee
shall settle the said dispute. Decisions made by the
organising committee are final.
Game Format
1. The games will follow Round Robin format.
2. Singles and doubles will play a single set of 21
points. The winner of the set will earn points for
the team (see System of Points).
3. Teams will be ranked based on Average Team Points
after playing against all teams.
System of Points
1. The winning player(s) will get 2 match points,
the losing player(s) gets 1 match point, and for the
player(s) that is technically expelled / withdrawn
will get 0 match point.
2. Total team points divided with total sets played
will be the Team Average Points.
3. At the end of the round of the competition, if
there are two or more teams that share the same match
points, their classification or ranking will be decided
as follows:
3.1 The number of sets won will be divided by the
number of sets lost in all matches, the resulting quotient
is decisive; the team with the higher quotient ranks
higher.
3.2 In the case of further ties, the number of points
won will be divided by the number of points lost in
all matches, the resulting quotient is decisive; the
team with the higher quotient ranks higher.
3.3 If a tie still exists, the number of sets won
will be divided by the number of sets lost in all matches
played against each other by the teams involved in
the tie. The team with the higher quotient ranks higher.
3.4 If a tie continues, the number of points won will
be divided by the number of points lost in all matches
played against each other by the teams involved in
the sets. The team with the higher quotient ranks higher.
3.5 In the case of a further tie between the two teams
involved, the results of the match they played against
each other will be taken into consideration. The team
that triumphs over the other will proceed to the next
round.
Awards
1. Medal will be awarded for best singles player,
and best doubles players, for Championship Game.
2. Medals will be awarded for top placing team for
Championship Game.
3. Challenge trophy for the Championship Game will
be awarded based on the total Teams Score.
4. Prizes will be awarded to the best performance
team for the Amateur Friendly Match.
5. Prizes will also be awarded to the Best Player
and Mr. Shuttlecock. These titles will be selected
from players of both the Championship Game and Amateur
Friendly Match. Please refer to “Non-Competitive
Awards Criteria” on the last page.
VOLLEYBALL
Date & Time
The game will be held on 27th October, 9:30am – 5:00pm.
Venue: Saphan Hin Indoor Stadium, Phuket Town.
Participation & Teams
1. Each team may register up to a maximum of 12 players
and a minimum of 6 players, a team manager (can be
a player too).
2. Each Country can send a maximum of four teams for
the Championship Game, and two team for the Amateur
Friendly Match.
3. Each player is allowed to represent only one team.
Any player found to have registered in more than one
team would be disqualified from the game.
4. If any player(s) are deleted from the registered
list due to unforeseen circumstances, the deleted player(s)
can only be replaced if there is vacant slot(s) on
the form.
5. Any team without sufficient players on the team’s
first game, the said team will be declared “incomplete” and
will be disqualified for the rest of the tournament.
6. The organiser reserves the right to cancel the
registration of any players/teams for violation of
the TSG2006 spirit and rules/regulations.
Game Regulations
1. Besides the existing regulations, this championship
will also abide by the rules and regulations of FIVB.
2. In the event of any disputes, the organising committee
shall settle the said dispute. Decisions made by the
organising committee are final.
Championship Game Format
1.0 Teams will be divided into groups by drawing of
lots.
2.0 Each group will compete in Round Robin format.
3.0 Teams will compete on a single set format of 35
points.
4.0 A point will be awarded to the winning team.
5.0 The team with the second highest points from each
group will meet for the third (3rd) and forth (4th)
placing. The team with the highest points from each
group will meet for the finals.
6.0 Finals, also the 3rd & 4th placing, will be
played based on best of three sets (25 points) format.
System of Points
1. The winning team will get 2 match points, the losing
team gets 1 match point and for the team that is technically
expelled / withdrawn will get 0 match point.

Most Sexy Player, and Mr. TSG Volleyball. These titles
will be selected from players of both the Championship
Game and Amateur Friendly Match. Please refer to “Non-Competitive
Awards Criteria” on the last page.
NOTES
1. The objective of TSG 2006 is to foster friendship
and promote healthy lifestyle among the GLBT community.
2. The organising committee holds the right to decide
on any issues raised that are not stated in the General
Regulations.
3. The organising committee has the right to alter
the format, games scheduled and dates of the tournament
if necessary. Participating teams will be informed
of any changes.
4. All decisions made by the organising committee
are final.
5. Participation and friendship is placed high in
the priority list of TSG. As such, countries that do

Non-Competitive Awards Criteria
Badminton:
1. Mr. Shuttlecock – every participants and
supporters get to vote the cutest looking player, and
the player with the highest vote will win.
2. Best Player – this category is determined
by all participants and supporters to vote who is the
best player in their heart, not by game points but
by style and sportsmanship.
Volleyball:
1. Most Sexy Player – participants and supporters
will vote for the most sex appeal players in the court,
and the player with the highest vote will win.
2. Best Player – this category is determined
by all participants and supporters to vote who is the
best player in their heart, not by game points but
by style and sportsmanship.
3. Mr. TSG Volleyball – every participants and
supporters get to vote the best looking player, and
the player with the highest vote will win.
